STL to hire 300-400 people in FY21 for 5G, wireless ecosystem and services biz

  Data network solutions provider  Sterlite Technologies  will hire about 300-400 professionals this fiscal for growth areas of 5G and wireless ecosystem and to support its plans to take services business global, Group CEO Anand Agarwal has said. Hepatitis drugs may be effective against Covid-19: Study

  New research adds to the growing body of evidence that sofosbuvir and daclatasvir, a drug combination commonly used for the treatment of hepatitis C, can improve clinical outcomes in patients with moderate or severe Covid-19. Three studies, published in Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, researched the use of sofosbuvir and daclatasvir for the treatment of Covid-19. These three studies come from Iran, which has developed its own pill containing sofosbuvir and daclatasvir, and is in a position to test this in a large clinical trial as Iran is a massively impacted country, reporting some 2,500 cases and 200 deaths a day. "Despite the encouraging initial results, it is too early to reach a verdict. Larger, well-designed studies are required to confirm our results," said Shahin Merat, the lead author of one of the Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy articles, from Tehran University in Iran.   The Russian government has reached out to India seeking a collaboration for manufacturing its COVID-19 vaccine Sputnik V' and conducting its phase 3 clinical trial here, sources said. According to government sources, the matter was discussed by the national expert group on vaccine administration for COVID-19 in its meeting held on August 22. Sputnik V has been developed by the Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology along with the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF). The vaccine has not been tested in phase 3 or larger clinical trials. There has been scepticism in some quarters about limited data related to the efficacy of the vaccine.   Bad news keeps piling up for global workers in this pandemic-besotted year as more corporates announce their downsizing plans in order to mitigate risks of a slowing economy. 1.78 crore Indian Railways tickets cancelled in five months due to COVID-19; Rs 2,727 crore refunded

  COVID-19 impact on  Indian Railways : Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, more than 1.78 crore tickets have been cancelled by Indian Railways since March this year, according to a PTI report. An RTI has found that the national transporter refunded an amount to the tune of Rs 2,727 crore. The RTI has found that Piyush Goyal-led Indian Railways had cancelled as many as 1,78,70,644 train tickets, the report said. Earlier, it was reported that perhaps for the first time the national transporter has refunded more than it has earned from ticket bookings. In the COVID-19-hit first quarter of the year 2020-21, Indian Railways had registered a negative passenger segment revenue of Rs 1,066 crore. Last year, while Rs 3,660.08 crore was refunded by Indian Railways had for the April 1 – August 11 period, the national transporter had also earned Rs 17,309.1 crore in the same period. Mallikarjuna Rao today said that  there will be no retrenchment of employees following the merger of the  Oriental Bank of Commerce  and  Union Bank of India  with PNB. During the  virtual press conference held to discuss the Q1 FY21 results, S. S. Mallikarjuna Rao added that  PNB has a strength of 1.03 lakh employees and as the business grows, this employee strength will further grow. Speaking about ways to raise capital, he further said that PNB has planned to go for Qualified Institutional Placement (QIP) by the end of the third quarter or early fourth quarter and there is no plan to approach the government for capital infusion.
